Try defragging. Move the gw.dat file from the C:/Program Files/Guild Wars folder (or whatever it is for you) onto your desktop, delete the one in the folder, and move the one on the desktop back. That should reduce some lag. I almost never get d/c'd. I do get rubberbanding now and then, but it's not too bad.

i sometimes think about quitting playing interrupter in international districts because its just a nightmare trying to interrupt with a 400~ping average
but it's just too much fun :S so i wont let lag get the better of me

Before my account was hacked, I had no experiences with lag.
I'm getting a new account this Saturday (I hope), so I'm glad I know beforehand that their may be some lag.

Would be interesting to know if those experiencing bad lag are using wireless connections or good old fashioned cable.
I assume wireless would be more prone to interference than the old style.
Who knows what might be operating on similar frequencies anything from ham radio to taxis cabs and emergency services.
I do know a friend in America complaining about radio interference.

Singapore has almost no lag issues, except for the usual 300~ ping. Never had to quit from lag.

Because any lag I ever had was temporary, I only stopped playing temporarily. The lag mostly occurred during special festival events on which the player activity was too much for the ANet servers/network to handle.
For the rest the performance is generally Excellent.
(Connected via ZeelandNet and XS4ALL to Euro servers)

I've had a few sustained periods of time (measured in weeks-months) with serious connection lag/issues - and each time after investigation was able to conclusively prove that it was not ArenaNet's fault. When the "average ping" reported ingame jumped to 52,000 ms and the last ping to 92,000 ms (yep, 92 seconds!), and stayed that way (took my ISP about 5 weeks to get their upstream service provider to fix the internet links out of Australia), yes - I've quit playing for a while because lag was so bad.
In fact, in desperation (it was the GWEN preview weekend) I organised to proxy my connection through a friend's internet connection for a few weeks since their service provider used a different path to get out of the country! Worked well - and was able to use that to prove to my ISP that their international link was buggered. However, the problem was not visible in normal web browsing, any Australian access was fine, and even youtube would work most of the time. So don't discount your ISP/network path to ANet being at fault rather than ANet's servers just because other stuff is working ok.
Normally, I have few problems - it's only really during festival events that lag becomes noticeable - or during scheduled network maintenance.

lag is a factor of life on the internet....sometimes it there, sometimes not.
I have not stopped playing for more than a day due to lag, it usually clears itself up (unless its some kind of intense problem like the german thing last year or the taiwan one that happened during the holidays)....or I play at times when most people in my area are asleep!

yea i very rarely have lag issues.
however, a day before that hurricane hit (not saying that had anything to do with it...i really have no idea), i was experiencing horrific lag while in and around the charr homelands in EOTN. and it was happening to everyone in the outposts i was at, too. rubberbanding, complete freeze, etc. at one point i had all 8 of my skills flashing as if they were being cast simultaneously...
but anyway, like i said, rarely do i have those types of problems.

I had heaps of lag a couple of weeks ago.
A reinstall fixed it and I'm in New Zealand, a few thousand miles away.
